Vikings is an historical drama television series written and created by Michael Hirst for the television channel History. It premiered on 3 March in the United.

Margrethe approaches Ivar and tells him not to be afraid. She kisses him and he hesitantly kisses her back before lying on the bed, naked.

She pulls up the blanket that covers his deformed legs and off her clothes and sits on top of him, exchanging small kisses.

Ivar attempts to be on top of her, her small cries indicating that she's not enjoying it. Unfortunately for Ivar, he is unable to complete the act and lays beside her, angry.

Ivar then pulls himself above her back and tries to strangle her with a cord, stating he has to kill her for fear she will tell his brothers about what happened.

Pleading for her life, she tells Ivar that she'll always speak about his virility and that she will blame herself for not enjoying their intercourse.

Ivar is not interested in that since he enjoys killing and she's only a slave. Margrethe, choking tells Ivar that he's right, that nobody will care except the gods, who will know the truth.

Intrigued, Ivar pulls away and Margrethe explains that "[the gods] will laugh at you for being such a coward.

Does that make you less of a man? Lots of men can have sex. Lots men can have children. Those things are easy. To be a son of Ragnar Lothbrok and to find greatness that is hard.

I truly believe that". Ivar grabs her hand and sobs in front of her. Later, Sigurd asks how the encounter went.

Shaking in fear, Margrethe says that he's the most brutal man she's ever met and that he almost killed her. When Sigurd asks her why he wanted her dead, she tells him the truth Ivar didn't want anyone to know about his inability to satisfy women sexually.

Sigurd chuckles and Margrethe begs him to not tell anyone, which he quickly does, by telling Hvitserk and Ubbe soon after.

The next day, Margrethe serves breakfast to Aslaug and her four sons. She hesitates to approach Ivar, who notices that she is uncomfortable and smirks at her and begins to grope her while being served.

Ubbe tries to intervene, telling his brother off for treating her like that, though Ivar quips that she's just a slave.

Taking Ubbe's side, Aslaug tries to correct her son's behavior but finds herself unable to scold him. Margrethe is ordered to sit beside Ivar, helping him eat his food and acting as if they were a couple.

Ubbe and Hvitserk start to laugh at him and his pretend wife, knowing he could never satisfy her or any woman. Angry, Ivar asks them why they're laughing at him since he now has a special servant and that she has many reasons to be grateful to him.

Hvitserk says that he can't keep a slave to himself like that, and Ivar mocks his older brother by asking his mother to tell him to stop tormenting him.

That being said, I thoroughly enjoyed the first episodeall that lush eye candy for a novice historical student of the Viking culture!

This episode has chosen to jump in at some point in time, and chose the year of without all the back story of a long and comparatively stable history of trade with the "southern lands".

The Scandinavian countries were undefined and fluid at that time, and were generally lumped into the "heathen" northmen.

In order to impress the pope and to be acknowledged as the holy Roman Emperor of Europe, around the year Charlemagne took a great interest in converting the heathens to Christianity.

In his campaign to forcibly convert the northmen, he first baptized, then brutally murdered the recalcitrant civilian pagansmany, many thousands at a time.

The northmen who managed to escape to their more northern cousins told of the brutality and extraordinarily rich Christians.

The attack on Lindesfarne was undoubtedly vicious, but did not occur without previous provocation. We all watch the show for different reasons, but if the producers can keep a reasonable level of historical accuracy, and weave in the interest and action needed to balance the whole show outI can see a long run for "The Vikings".

Margrethe gave birth to her first child 26 May By tradition, Danish kings were alternately named either Frederik or Christian. She chose to maintain this by assuming the position of a Christian, and thus named her eldest son Frederik.

A second child, named Joachim , was born 7 June At his death 14 days later, 14 January , Margrethe succeeded to the throne at the age of 31, becoming the first female Danish sovereign under the new Act of Succession.

My beloved father, our King, is dead. The task that my father had carried for nearly 25 years is now resting on my shoulders.

I pray to God to give me help and strength to carry the heavy heritage. May the trust that was given to my father also be granted to me. The Queen's main tasks are to represent the Kingdom abroad and to be a unifying figure at home.

The Queen performs the latter task by accepting invitations to open exhibitions, attending anniversaries, inaugurating bridges, etc.

She receives foreign ambassadors and awards honours and medals. As an unelected public official, the Queen takes no part in party politics and does not express any political opinions.

Although she has the right to vote, she opts not to do so to avoid even the appearance of partisanship. The Queen holds a meeting with the prime minister and the foreign affairs minister every Wednesday, unless she or the prime minister is outside of the kingdom.

After an election where the incumbent prime minister does not have a majority behind him or her, the Queen holds a "Dronningerunde" Queen's meeting in which she meets the chairmen of each of the Danish political parties.

Each party has the choice of selecting a royal investigator to lead these negotiations or alternatively, give the incumbent prime minister the mandate to continue his or her government as is.

In theory each party could choose its own leader as royal investigator, the social liberal Det Radikale Venstre did so in , but often only one royal investigator is chosen plus the prime minister, before each election.

The leader who, at that meeting succeeds in securing a majority of the seats in the Folketing , is by royal decree charged with the task of forming a new government.

It has never happened in more modern history [ when? Once the government has been formed, it is formally appointed by the Queen. Officially, it is the Queen who is the head of government, and she therefore presides over the Council of State privy council , where the acts of legislation which have been passed by the parliament are signed into law.

In practice, however, nearly all of the Queen's formal powers are exercised by the Cabinet of Denmark. In addition to her roles in her own country, the Queen is also the colonel-in-chief of the Princess of Wales's Royal Regiment Queen's and Royal Hampshires , an infantry regiment of the British Army , following a tradition in her family.

She stated that the Danish people should have more explicitly clarified the rules and values of Danish culture in order to be able to teach them to new arrivals.

She further stated that the Danes in general have underestimated the difficulties involved in successful integration of immigrants, exemplified with the rules of a democracy not being clarified to Muslim immigrants and a lack of readiness to enforce those rules.

This was received as a change in line with the attitude of the Danish people. Margrethe is an accomplished painter , and has held many art shows over the years.

Her illustrations—under the pseudonym Ingahild Grathmer—were used for Danish editions of The Lord of the Rings , which she was encouraged to illustrate in the early s.

She sent them to J. Tolkien , who was struck by the similarity of her drawings to his own style. Margrethe's drawings were redrawn by the British artist Eric Fraser for the Folio Society 's English edition of The Lord of the Rings , first published in and reissued in In , she illustrated Henrik, the Prince Consort's poetry collection Cantabile.

She is also an accomplished translator and is said to have participated in the Danish translation of The Lord of the Rings.

Margrethe is a chain smoker , and she is famous for her tobacco habit. In , the Queen announced that her male-line descendants would bear the additional title of Count or Countess of Monpezat, in recognition of her husband's ancestry.

Retrieved 22 August And I pray to Odin that Lagertha cuts out her tongue. I mean Lagertha was a farmer's wife who became queen, then queen of somewhere else, then came back to kittycat and murdered the queen in cold blood because Ragnar chose her over Lagertha.

Because she's a malignant cunt, ungrateful bitch, Lagertha should have slit her throat after the first betrayal It's okay to have some characters just be attractive love interests.

She doesn't need to have major influence on the plot if she doesn't look the part, and she really doesn't.

If you compare her to Siggy or Aslaug, they at least have the look of a woman who could get shit done.

She looks way too cute and innocent. Man, i took a quick look at your comment history. What women have ever done to you to be so bitter?

What I really want to know is why they cut the bit where ubbe gets angry and pushes her away when she mentions killing bjorn? Where did you see the longer version?

There are a couple cool folks on this Reddit that have been putting up the deleted content this season, but, unless I missed it, it hasn't been posted here yet,.

I know that and that wasn't my question. I'm only asking why they cut this from the US version, lol. In the US version ubbe doesn't have any reaction, he just listens and proceeds to bang her.

They've been doing that all season. I thought they would only cut nude scenes or leave out entire scenes that doesn't add much to the plot.

But struggling to understand why they would just cut a few yet very important seconds of a scene that has no nudity at all.

Hell, why did they make 2 versions of this in the first place and let the original one be the one where ubbe doesn't give a shit?

I think all the female characters in the show are, with varying degrees of likability, thoroughly consistent. Margrethe sp?

It's a bold move for a show that by definition is as macho as "Vikings", because she is so "woman-stupid". That said, it's an interesting contrast to Lagertha powerhouse Mary Sue , Astrid incompetent good-doer , Torvi ersatz Mary Sue , and Judith "wailing woman" - that is not a snide.

Myself, I don't see her making it through 5A, at least not as a starring character: The whole dramatic function of 5A is to condense the cast, because so many plotlines have to be modified for the basic setup continuing to work.

I absolutely despise her as a character. But whoever the actress is, she made me hate a TV character almost as passionately as Goffrey Baratheon, and that's a great fuckin' job.

When she said, "Ubbe wouldn't allow that to happen. It didn't happen though, which resulted in Lagertha seeming weak.

In my opinion. I had sympathy for her when she was a slave and in a shitty position. Playing the three brothers was pretty much her only option for survival and possible freedom.

Now that she's turned into a nasty, Lady MacBeth character, I'm okay with her meeting a tragic end. I have not enjoyed some of the scripting, which has been weak af at times.

Like when she immediately starts harping Ubbe right after they let Floki leave, when Lagertha could easily have been still in earshot.

For somebody supposedly so sneaky and conniving the show has made her look impatient and reckless. I think part of this is them shoehorning her into the show.

Another issue is the pacing, which has been poorly managed this season and stifled character development with many characters not sufficiently evolving in front of the audience making their actions or stories seem haphazard and nonsensical.

As for hating sneaky conniving characters, personally I think they are part of the make up of a show driven by good political power plays.

Once I felt sorry for her when Ivar used to creep up on her like the perverse sociopath he was back in season 4B, I felt poor her who is a slave, got nothing in her life except being shared between Hvitserks puny moustache and Ubbe's little axe, she fucks up and tells the ugliest brother with the serial killer mullet about Ivars third leg being useless and couldve died back then.

There was a time when I thought "fuck I feel sorry for her being tossed around in this mess of brotherly love and fuck ups.

She need to step down from her high horse and remember a few months ago she used to be the little spoon to a sociopath cripple who would kill her for sneezing the wrong way.

Heahmund should teach her about the seven deadly sins and put extra weight on learning about greed and gluttony.

As much as i hate Lagertga for dishonorably murdering Aslaug in cold blood literally behind her back after Aslaug willingly abdicated , she elevated Margrethe from a slave to a free woman, and lets her live and chill in the great hall all the time, dining in the presence of the rulers and reaping all the benefits of the ruling elite.

It's a pretty stable position to; no one is going to try to overthrow her or anything, there's no risks. And her response?

Kill lagertha. Stupid and greedy as fuck. Use of this site constitutes acceptance of our User Agreement and Privacy Policy. All rights reserved.
